This pattern is recorded in the Russell Archive as Design no: 547 ‘Fruit Dish in gilding metal or oxydised copper /11 ¾” diameter x 8 ¼” high / Price £6.18.6’.

Russell and Sons Ltd changed its name to Russell Workshops Ltd on 4th November 1927, and again to Gordon Russell Ltd on 28th September 1929; this allows the present example to be dated to within a two-year period.

Other examples, in ‘gilding brass’ are in an English private collection, and in an American private collection.  A third example (identically marked to the one offered here) is illustrated on the cover of Andrew Everett, Love and Labour are All: The Arts and Crafts Movement and Beyond, 2012.
